Visit beautiful & historic Wells, the friendliest town in Maine.
Visit beautiful & historic Wells, the friendliest town in Maine. The Town of Wells is a family town boasting a wealth of natural beauty that makes it one of the finest vacation spots anywhere. A seven mile ribbon of fine sandy beach winds along the coastline.
For the outdoor enthusiast, there are acres of preserved coastal marshes and wetlands, the legacy of author and environmentalist Rachel Carson. The Wells National Estuarine Research Reserve at Laudholm Farm offers seven miles of trails and exhibits for hiking and exploring. A visit to Wells has never been simpler as passenger rail service is now available at the Wells Regional Trans-portation Center. Seasonal trolley service aboard a seashore trolley is a fun way to explore. The town of Wells, settled in 1640, is justly known as Maine’s Center for Antiques and Rare Books with over 50 shops to visit. The town is rich in its historic import to early America. Old barns, family cemeteries, farmhouses, stone walls, one room schoolhouses, and monuments are found throughout the community. These reminders of our founding fathers and the early settlers who sought to establish this brave new world have surprisingly remained intact through the years. Some of the events for 2006 include the 5th Annual Antique Show & Sale (June 25), Summer Concert Series Saturdays (July1-September 2), HarborFest/Roman Market Days (July 15 & 16), 4th Annual Native American Powwow (July 22 & 23), 8th Annual ChiliFest (September 9 & 10) and the 23rd Annual Southern Maine Christmas Parade (December 9).
