Given the just right blend of wooded habitats and pristine coastline, the Maine Beaches region is home to hundreds of species of birds. No matter the time of year, the birding enthusiasts will not be disappointed by the variety and uniqueness of our indigenous feathered friends! And it won't take you long to hear the song of the chickadee, the official bird of the State of Maine.

Among the many bird species that can be spotted in Maine is the bald eagle. According to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Maine's 500 pairs represent the largest population in the Northeast. The best place to seek them out is near the water’s edge, where they have easy access to fish and waterfowl.
